The Racist Card

| | Comments (13) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
[EDISI BAHASA MELAYU DI BAWAH ARTIKEL INI]

It is strange that whenever people like Param Cumaraswamy accuse others of being racist they end up by exposing the racist in them. For them you are racist only if you talk about Malays and their need to catch up with other races. If you talk of the imagined plight of other races in Malaysia, and make ridiculous statements that the Tamil Indians in Malaysia are facing "ethnic cleansing" when you know that no such thing is happening, it is not racist.

It is only in Malaysia that people of immigrant origins, so identified by their insistence on being linked race-wise with their countries of origin, are actually accepted as citizens.

THE MILLIONAIRE CLUB

| | Comments (9) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
Touching one million hits among bloggers seem to be something to be celebrated. I was told that most bloggers will congratulate each other when one of them hits the million mark, and call the one millionaire.

Some bloggers have described my achieving the million mark within a month of my first posting as something phenomenal; one even suggested that it may be a world record of sorts.

I do not know whether it is.

To me, what is more important is that I have managed to generate enough interest to get that kind of traffic in my blog.

The Criminalisation of War

When I was in Japan recently I had the opportunity to explain about Malaysia's Non-Governmental Organisation's campaign to make war a punishable crime.

The Japanese had been guilty of perpetrating brutalities during their Manchurian Incident and war against China and also during the Pacific War.

On the other hand they were the only people in the world to experience the first ever nuclear war, of having their citizens of Hiroshima and Nagasaki reduced to ashes by atomic bombs, with the loss of 200,000 lives and thousands more struck down by radiation sickness later.

UMNO yang bukan lagi UMNO

| | Comments (26) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog

THE RULE OF LAW

| | Comments (3) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
Malaysia is a country which practices the rule of law. Our laws must cover every aspect of our societal life, so we will know exactly what we can do and what we cannot do. Prime Ministers in particular must have everything spelt out for them in this respect. This will enable them to be charged if they had breached the rule of law long after they had retired.

Governments, serving Prime Ministers and Ministers are well placed to initiate action against others. But when the Government, the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister do something wrong, like cover-ups for example, then police reports may be made against them. But how can the person reporting be sure that the police will investigate without fear or favour.

Kesetiaan kepada UMNO

| | Comments (18) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog

"Letter" to Prime Minister of Israel

| | Comments (9) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
1. There is a letter being circulated purporting to be from me when I was Prime Minister, to Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel congratulating him on his appointment and requesting for the "Clinton Fund", for "the purpose of withstanding the onslaught of Islamic Fundamentalist in Malaysia".

2. This letter is not from me or from my office. Firstly, the font used is not the same as the type in all my letters from the Prime Minister's office.

3. The Malaysian Coat of Arms at the top is not similar to the one on all my letters from the Prime Minister's office.

LOMPAT

| | Comments (4) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
1. Kita banyak dengar tentang kemungkinan ahli parti Barisan Nasional lompat masuk parti lawan.

Lobby

1. In some ways Malaysia is ahead of some developed countries in the appreciation of what is right and what is wrong.

2. In the United States lobbying is permitted and honourable. Many famous figures, especially former members of the Government have firms which offer lobbying services.

3. Foreign countries, including Malaysia find this service very convenient. We lobbied for some favourable policy to be shown for palm oil, tin and rubber imports into the United States for example.

Pengumuman Keluar Dari UMNO

| | Comments (21) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog

Kepimpinan UMNO masih "in denial"

UMNO - 62 Tahun

| | Comments (2) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog

Kegagalan Barisan Nasional

| | Comments (13) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
1. Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Presiden UMNO, Pengerusi Barisan Nasional dan Perdana Menteri telah menyalahkan semua orang kecuali dirinya sebagai penyebab prestasi Barisan Nasional yang buruk pada Pilihanraya Umum ke-12.

The Ex-Gratia Payment

| | Comments (5) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
The Malaysian Government of Dato Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi recently decided to pay certain judges ex-Gratia Payments.

Clearly the Government felt contrite over what had happened to these judges many years ago, and felt a need to make amends, but not quite enough to apologise as was suggested by the de facto Minister of Justice, Dato Zaid Ibrahim.

In fact if newspaper reports are to be believed the Cabinet rejected the proposal by the new Law Minister. Nothing was decided about the ex-Gratia payment.

But a dinner was held by the Bar Council which rumours say was paid for by the Government during which the Prime Minister announced two things which must gladden the hearts of members of the Bar.

I would like to thank all visitors to chedet.com. for their kind words and for welcoming me to the blogosphere. To be honest, I was indeed surprised by the overwhelming response to my weblog.

To my critics and detractors I welcome your comments, but I would appreciate that responses be focussed on the issue that I blog. This is to allow a healthy debate and to gauge points of view which differ from my own.

I apologise that due to the overwhelming traffic, I may not be able to respond to all comments and queries as much as I would like to. I will be selective and respond to points repeatedly raised by commentators in relation to what I've posted.

I shall also not respond, unless absolutely necessary, to issues that have been raised and answered by me in other forums, especially those pertaining to unsubstantiated allegations.

The Appointment of Judges

| | Comments (4) | TrackBacks (0) | Previous Blog
The Prime Minister has announced that judges would be chosen by a Commission specially set up for this purpose.

2. No details have been made public as to the way the Commission would work.

3. Would the Commission actually appoint the judges or would it only recommend the names for the PM to approve or would the Commission recommend directly to the Agong for him to exercise his prerogative? Or would the Agong require the approval of the Rulers Conference? Or would the Conference of Rulers be merely consulted as is done now? Or would they be able to reject the candidate, and ask for new candidates or name new candidates of their choice?

4. It would be interesting to know the full details of the procedures, above all with regard to the role of the PM.
